Malyka Sankofa / Vocals

Malyka, who grew up in a household filled with music is passionate about jazz, and any genre of music with a positive message. Her earliest exposures came from her father and his three brothers, who had a Latin percussion band that often practiced in her home. She has participated regularly in musical and stage productions since her early childhood and was a music major in Overbrook High School’s Music Magnet Program where she was a member of the concert choir and award winning gospel choir. During high school she co-founded a singing group, Kalyma, whose focus was spiritually and socially conscious music. After moving to New Jersey, she began singing with a band that performed on the Playboy, Atlantic City casino and Pocono Resort circuit. Malyka has also done background vocal work in several local Philadelphia studios. She is the wife of singer/songwriter Zahmu, and mother of three budding teenage musicians. She loves every opportunity to make great music with the Philly Horn Band.
